READ MY REVIEW if you want to improve your dental health. I spent ONE HOUR researching all the dentists that were available to me as a Blue Shield HMO client (aka cheap insurance). As someone who lives in Los Angeles (Los Feliz), I expanded my search to 50 miles. That was when I landed on Dr. Nicole Smith. I also work in the healthcare industry so I made sure to look up her NPI, read all her reviews, and look at the website. Seeing as she was the best dentist I found by far, I booked an appointment and double checked that it would ONLY cost me $5 for a visit. When I got to the office, I was impressed by how clean and modern it looked. The front desk receptionists were extremely friendly and if I'm being honest, I was a little suspicious that my insurance could cover this. DENTAL EXAM: This was the most comprehensive dental exam I've received in my 32 years of life. My parents had always been very particular about dental health, which meant that I got my teeth cleaned during vacation, study abroad trips, and more. I would say it lasted like an hour. Everything was so high-tech, and they checked my gum pockets (which actually I've never had done before...) I was told I had peridontal disease and gum disease, which obviously made me stunned. But, I never felt any shame from the wonderful technicians, the DH, or Dr. Nicole Smith. They asked me if I wanted to do a saliva test to see what bacteria I had and I believe it was $200+. I went ahead and did it, and was called a week later letting me know my results. I was promptly provided antibiotics and took them. We came up with a treatment plan to help me. INSURANCE ISSUES: When I left, I paid the $5 copay and was asked if I wanted to pay the $200+ for the test, I said yes and paid it. Then, I scheduled TWO DEEP CLEANINGS (half side). About a few weeks later, I got a letter in the mail from Blue Shield telling me I owed $1.4K+ to the dental office because they didn't cover the other comprehensive exams. I was in disbelief because no one told me that I would have to pay for this when I went to the office. I called them and they said that it wasn't a bill from the office and that they had waived those fees. In fact, my account balance was zero. SO, if you see any bills from your insurance, DO NOT CONFUSE it with the bill from the office. DEEP CLEANING: I don't hate the dentist, but I do hate shots. My wonderful Dental Hygienist, Doria, was the very best. Literally 5 star service. She carefully explained everything she was doing before she did it, gave me warnings, told me to breathe, told me when it was going to be over, and kept telling me how good I was doing. Also, she calls me gorgeous so that also made me feel nice :) Yes I had to get like 6 shots on half the side of my mouth. But I would gladly do it again to be a patient here - that's how good they are. After my deep cleaning, my teeth were sparkling white and oh so clean. The deep cleaning isn't the cheapest option of course, but they try their best to work with your insurance and are very transparent on the costs of things. All in all, I keep recommending this place to my family and friends. I will be back for my cleaning in January and be reunited with Doria. Maybe I'll see you in the waiting room (for like 5 mins, they're really good at making sure you don't wait 2 hours).
